Global Data Systems Inc., or GDS, realizes the potential
and economic promise in the satellite communications sector. And
by using the state's loan guaranty program, the
company has taken advantage of this growth opportunity.
Headquartered in the Louisiana Immersive Technology Enterprise
Center in Lafayette, La., GDS is an advanced IT company
that provides IP solutions and satellite communications services.
The $1.8 million loan guaranty, received through the Small Business
Loan Program, will allow GDS to expand its satellite
communications capabilities.
"GDS is excited about its future to grow its business right here
in Lafayette," said GDS Vice President of Finance and Business
Operations Brent Berard. "GDS was able to take advantage of the
emerging business opportunity on its horizon to grow and expand its
business and employment base. With the addition of satellite
communications to its product offerings, the company is projecting
to grow its employment base by 31 new jobs over the next five
years."
The Small Business Loan Program provides loan guarantees and
participations to banks in order to facilitate capital
accessibility for businesses. Guarantees may range up to 75 percent
of the loan amount, not to exceed $1.5 million and loan
participations of up to 40 percent are also available. Applicants
must be a Louisiana small business, have a business plan and a bank
that is willing to fund the loan.
