When MOTORTECH Americas, an affiliate of German engine
manufacturer Motortech GmbH, considered relocating its Chicago
operations in 2008, Louisiana Economic Development stepped in to
help ensure the company developed a long-term presence in the
state.
LED not only assisted with site selection for the new facility,
but also identified strategic partners and locations in Louisiana,
offered information on state and federal incentives and provided
guidance with additional international investment issues.
"New Orleans is a centrally located base that not only serves
the local Gulf energy market, but it is also a desirable port
location that allows us to import/export product to expanding
markets in North America, Central America and South America," said
Brent Powers, MOTORTECH Americas' vice president of sales and
distribution. "In addition to the closer proximity to our core
customer base, LED with the state of Louisiana offered superior
short-term and long-term incentives. MOTORTECH considers LED our
strategic partner with regards to the corporate relocation and to
our future growth in Louisiana."
MOTORTECH specializes in high-technology system solutions and
accessories for industrial gas engines. The company relocated to
New Orleans in November 2008, with plans for a
manufacturing/assembly expansion in mid-2009.
LED's European representative, David Smallman, said the
relocation is a win for both MOTORTECH and the state of Louisiana.
He credits the company's arrival in Louisiana to a new level of
cooperation within the state's economic development community.
"This is a great example of how economic development
professionals working together can join the dots and make projects
like MOTORTECH Americas happen," Smallman said.
